eBay Has the Details

Just in case you missed this on eBay, there was an auction, Item # 5792133241, “Mobile Phone Patent.” The patent, US. Patent #6,161,005, wasfor a “Door Locking/unlocking Phone for Sale” and enabled the locking and unlocking of doors “at various distances.” Potential bidders were referred to a patent attorney in El Paso.

With all the recent patent cases - Blackstone, Freedom Wireless and so on, going to court, we thought that offering a patent on eBay was a much more docile, and perhaps less expensive way, to resolve patent disputes. Unfortunately, the auction expired without a single bid. We were thinking about bidding on it, but PayPal would not take our bid. It seems that the opening price of $5,000,000 was just a bit over our limit.
